DESCRIPTION:Spring has sprung and it’s time for another edition of Starting Points! Come and hear these two features then stay for the Open Mic and some Cinco de Mayo themed drinks at Summer Bar.\n\nMEET OUR FEATURES\nTaneesh Kaur (“Core”) is a US-born Punjabi teaching artist based in San Francisco\, a social justice advocate who uses nature to understand and dismantle systems of mental and physical oppression. Her full-length debut collection\, Thawing: A Poetic Memoir\, was released in March 2024 by Collapse Press. Taneesh has a Master’s in linguistics from San Francisco State University\, and is a first year in the MFA program at University of San Francisco. More of her work can be found in English and Spanish at www.TaneeshCantos.com.\n\nRae Diamond is a neurodivergent interdisciplinary artist\, educator and nature advocate who inhales life and exhales poems\, music\, and other creations. They are the author and artist of floating bones (First Matter Press)\, the author of The Cantigee Oracle (North Atlantic Books)\, and the founder of the Long Tone Choir. DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by the Berkeley Branch of the California Writers Club\, Poetry Express is back in Berkeley! Come on out to 2727 California Street in south Berkeley to hear open mic poetry. 2727 California Street is a multi-use event space and cooperative art gallery. The open mic readers will be surrounded by paintings as they express their poetry to the audience.\n\nMark States founded Poetry Express in 2002. While held at various venues throughout Berkeley (and one time in Oakland)\, Poetry Express was (and aspires to be in the future) a staple of the Bay Area literary scene.\n\nThe Poetry Express Vision: To be a place where more experienced poets mingle with local residents\, inspiring them to take up pen & express themselves artistically. A place where the wanderer is free to share a personal story or political thought\, a place to share without fear of argument or discouragement.\n\nCome on out to south Berkeley to hear open mic as part of the dynamic Bay Area literary scene.
