Monetized Happiness

By Keith Gaboury

Monetized Happiness is a poetry collection that shows economic disparity, homelessness, parenthood, and urban living in Oakland and San Francisco, California. American happiness is monetized. When people sleep on sidewalks and others sleep under roofs, are we living in an equal country? A reader is left to decide on their own.

To my mind, Monetized Happiness is Keith Gaboury’s best book yet, a poetic opera to Oakland and San Francisco.

TESTIMONIALS

What Others Are Saying

Each of the pieces stand tall, often proudly and infused with human drama large and small. We are greeted by a cavalcade of familiar and vivid characters. Monetized Happiness treats us with frequent pop-ups of his signature surrealist bent. Bravo, Maestro Gaboury! You have given us a snapshot of the Bay Area for the age.

Gaboury's collection Monetized Happiness captures the gritty and desperate love of Oakland. A sensitive and honest collection about the urban condition, his unflinching observation and delicate command of language shows the beauty of the day to day. A love letter not from a faraway admirer but inside the complex relationship to a city. Gaboury puts you right alongside himself in every story he has to tell about the Bay.
